Here I am on logging from my newly installed Ubuntu 6.06 (for n00bs, Ubuntu is a Linux OS distro). I've been trying to install it since yesterday which met no success. Only today I've realized that I had made a few mistakes which was holding me back:

1. Unable to boot into Live Desktop.
Problem: APIC enabled.
Solution: Disabled APIC from the BIOS.

2. System freeze during the beginning of installation setup.
Problem: My overclocked cpu was not 100% stable.
Solution: reduced the speed a few MHz.

.... damn, that was actually easy.

And today, I mean this morning installation was successful and I'm already surfing the net without hiccups. Everything was configured automatically during installation. I would say this was as easy as installing Windows, although n00bs might found it a little bit hard to configure the partitions. This is definitely much-much easier compare to RedHat or Mandrake which I tried some time ago.

      

I had PCLinuxOS on my dad's laptop. It was okay, but too much software bundles. This Ubuntu 6.06 package was installed with OpenOffice (like MSOffice), GIMP (like Photoshop), some music and video application, Firefox browser, and GAIM Internet Messenger (one application that supports different messenger services, like Yahoo & MSN just to name a few...nice!). Just minimal but practical.

Right now, I'm trying to get the NTFS (WinXP) partition to be viewable, so that I can play all my MP3s and vids from here. Will update everything later on.... after I finish downloading all the software updates, which also handled by Ubuntu.
